Chapter 6
First Date

Vienna sighed and tapped her pencil against her notebook.  She always found Hamlet to be one of the less interesting of Shakespeare's works.  Her hand drifted over her cheek and she blushed a little.  Victor had kissed her.  Did that mean he liked her?  She hoped he did because she really liked him.  Oh, but what if he didn't?!  She frowned and put her pencil down before putting a finger up to her lips to check if they were soft, they were.  So if Victor wanted to come out of nowhere and kiss her that would be quite alright.  She was prepared…or was she?  She blushed a little more and bowed her head looking down at her lack of chest.  Who was she kidding?  Victor wouldn't want to kiss a flat chested girl with short hair!  Ryo Asakura was right she might as well have been a boy for how much she resembled one.  She pulled down her skirt a little as it was riding up again.  Why did her grandmother have to be doing wash today?  Couldn't it have waited until the weekend?  She felt so self-conscious in such a short skirt.  Why couldn't they have made longer skirts?  Vienna glanced back nonchalantly to see Ryo was staring at her.  She scowled at him then turned to face the front once more.  What was he looking at anyways?!  She hated him.  He had hurt her so much with his mean words and violent nature.  Picking up her pencil once more she began to write Victor's name down numerous times.  She would have to throw away the pages before class ended.  Vienna looked down at the page full of Victor's name and twitched her lips to the side wondering why girls and movies would write their crushes name on paper over and over again.  What good did it do?  She rolled her eyes and ripped the page out of her note book, deciding that it was a stupid idea to begin with.
When Vienna had looked and scowled his way Ryo quickly turned away, a red streak across his face. He had just been caught staring. How embarrassing.
"I want a five page essay on your thoughts about Hamlet and Ophelia tomorrow. Class dismissed." Professor Brown declared.
There was a chatter immediately as students streamed out of the class. Ryo stood slowly and made his way out, eager to get out of Vienna's sight. He felt like a piece of scum on her shoe.
Vienna was still gathering her things as the other students left.  She decided that she would go see Victor on her break and maybe get a kiss…

Just like her plans suggested, Vienna scurried outside and towards the place she usually met Victor. He was there, just as she had thought, tending that little patch of marigolds by the pond.
She smiled happy that he was easy to find, "Hi." she greeted quietly.
Victor looked up and gave her his usual smile, a cigarette in his lips. "Hey. I was wondering if I'd see you sooner than later today." He leaned back on his knees and blew out a stream of smoke before putting out the ashes.
Her smile widened as she offered him a breath mint.  She didn't want her first kiss to taste like cigarettes.
Confused, he slowly took the mint. "Thanks." He stood and popped it into his mouth. What was she up to…?
"So, uh…" she paused to put on more chapstick, "How are your flowers today?"
"They're happy." He tilted his head, watching her actions. She was much too obvious for him not to notice what she had come here for.
"Great, great…" she swallowed and rocked back on her heels, "You…look very…clean today."
He looked down at the dirt on his clothes. "Cleaner than usual, I hope. I wanted to look nice for you."
She blushed and mentally patted herself on the back, "For me?  Why?"
"Well…" Swiftly, he was close to her, his lips just inches away from her ear. "I wanted to ask you something."
"W-what would that be?" she asked quietly turning only slightly from him.
His lips curved rather maliciously, certain things on his mind at that precise moment. "Will you allow me the honor of courting you?"
"I…yeah!  Totally!  You know to be honest I wasn't really sure if you…were interested in me in that way or not." Vienna was blushing furiously now.
Victor wrapped his arms around her and pulled her into a strong hug. "Of course I'm interested in you. Why else would I have given you a rose? Hm? I only give those away to beautiful girls, and trust me, you're the most beautiful I have seen."
Vienna's face felt so hot as she hugged him tightly.  It all seemed too fantastic to be real.  He really wanted her!  That had never happened before!
"Let's go on a date tonight." He purred, his lips caressing her ear ever so softly. "I want to get to know you better."
"Yeah, okay." Vienna nodded.  She would just have to wait a bit longer for her first kiss.

"Your first date!" Grandma cooed as she went out of her way to make Vienna ready for tonight. "I'm so excited for you! Let's see… I think you should wear something like this." She pulled up a dress. Of course, it wasn't up for very long for a detailed explanation to be presented. "Or this one? It's red and sexy, bound to get this man of yours in the sack!"
Vienna's face turned as red as the dress, "I'm not trying to sleep with him grandma." she whined in a strained whisper.
"I think you should. It's about time I have great grandchildren." Grandma threw the red dress at her granddaughter. "Hurry, put that on so I can do your make up and hair! You must look absolutely perfect!"
Quickly putting on the dress, she couldn't help but imagine Victor and her…together.  She sighed and made her way back out to her Grandmother, "How does it look?"
"Absolutely ravishing." Grandma answered, took her hand, and led her back into the room. Getting out a heavy duty make up kit the old woman started dolling the young girl up. Donned with red lipstick and fake eyelashes, Vienna was feeling more self conscious than before. It didn't help that the dress showed off her curves and legs.
"Grandma, I think that's a bit too much…can't I just wear a nice pants suit?"
"No! Absolutely not. You must look like a lady in red. It's far more mysterious and entrancing than a pants suit, despite how good you look in them." Grandma gave her hand a firm pat. The door rang, indicating Victor's arrival. "There he is! Off you go!"
Vienna frowned then went to answer the door.
As the door opened, Victor turned around and smiled pleasantly, presenting her with a bouquet of flowers. "The most beautiful flowers for the most beautiful girl." He looked a bit more casual than Vienna, but that was grandma's fault. He wore a nice black suit with a white shirt, no tie needed. "You ready to go?"
She nodded with great urgency, "Hurry before Grandma-"
Grandma was at the door in a split second. "Oh, what a nice and handsome young man. Are you going to treat my granddaughter with the utmost respect?"
Victor nodded, Vienna already on his arm. "Of course. Nothing but the best. I'll have her home by eleven."
"Make it twelve." Grandma had a large, sinister grin on her face. "Take all the time you need."
Victor's and Vienna's faces flushed a light pink.
"Don't mind her, she's crazy." Vienna said laughing nervously.
"Oh, and make sure to wear a condom!!" Grandma called after them as they had attempted to make a clean get away.
She winced hoping that somehow Victor didn't hear that, "So where are we going?"
Victor had, unfortunately, heard. He cleared his throat, "Oh, no where special. Just a family restaurant, if that's okay. I try to keep first dates cheaper than the later ones."
"Yeah it's fine." Vienna purred sweetly.
He held her closer to him, his lips on the top of her head. He had a good feeling about tonight.

Dinner went without a hitch. Over their scrumptious meals they got to know each other just a bit more. Who would've thought Victor had once been in poverty? Most of Victor's meal was tucked away in a doggie bag. He hadn't eaten much. Maybe he was getting sick? Oh, could he have caught her cold!? Guilt plagued her very soul that moment.
"Why are you wearing fake lashes?" Victor's words jutted her out of her guilty thoughts.
"Oh, grandma did my makeup.  I told her it was too much." She laughed softly.
"Let's get them off you." He pulled one lash off easily. "So much mascara, too. She really went out of her way."
Vienna reached up and pulled the other fake lash off, "What can I say?  Grandma REALLY wants grandkids." she chuckled softly.
"Hm…" Victor's eyes immediately turned sad. "Kids… that sounds nice. Someday." He looked off into the distance, staring at a flickering street lamp.
Vienna immediately noticed the change of mood, "Are you alright?"
"Yeah. I suppose." He looked back at her and attempted a smile. "I just remembered something. It's nothing, really." He quickly changed the topic, his mood perking up a bit. "I have a question for you. How do you kill a really old and powerful vampire? I know it sounds weird, and random, but I'm just curious."
Vienna laughed and shrugged, "Wooden stake, garlic, holy water, take your pick."
"What, would you throw the holy water in their face, or something?" Victor joked, gesturing just how exactly he would throw the holy water.
"Or you could trick it into drinking the holy water-this is silly." Vienna laughed and walked ahead of him, "Are you into vampires or something?"
"No." He crept up behind her, his hands on her waist, holding her back into him. "I despise them. I want to be ready to kill them if I run into one. An unnecessary precaution, I know."
She gasped a little in surprise then smiled, "You talk like you actually believe in them or something."
"I'm a paranoid man." His lips grazed her neck, inhaling her sweet scent. "I can't help it."
She blushed as she felt his soft cool lips brush against her neck.  She shivered a little, "Paranoid about things that don't exist?"
His eyes glimmered dangerously. "Who's to say they don't exist…? Or are you one of those "proof first questions later" people?"
She laughed softly, "I'm one of those 'I'll believe it when I see it' kind of people.  I can't help it, science is my best friend.  It explains all the monsters away."
"Science doesn't explain everything." His lips dragged up to her ear. "But… we're getting ahead of ourselves." He stepped around her and took her hand. "The night's still young and we have all the time in the world."
Her blush faded as her pretty green eyes became sultry, "Right.  Where to next, Captain?"
"Got it." Victor led her into the park and towards a large fountain. The lights all around reflected in the silver water. He sat her down on the edge and stood back, taking a picture with his mind. "Perfect. You're so beautiful. You outshine the background."
She laughed, "Flattery will get you no where Mr. Photographer.  Photograph your model." she said in an exaggerated arrogant voice.
"Ah but flattery did get me somewhere." He rushed back to her side and snuggled into her, his face close to hers. "How else did I get to go on this fantastic date with you?"
"Touché ." Vienna grinned and turned her face away from him, "It really is a beautiful night, we got lucky I guess."
"The night is always beautiful." Victor's arm went around her waist, holding her against him. "But I prefer daylight, to be honest." His voice hinted another meaning behind his words.
"I've always liked the night myself…one of my best and only friends would only visit me during the night time." She smiled as she looked up at the stars.
"Why is that?" He asked out of curiosity.
Vienna tensed up quite a bit, "He…he was deformed.  And…very…hairy."
He couldn't help but laugh a little. "I see. He was self conscious about his image. It only makes sense that he'd want to only come out at night." He decided he wouldn't ask anymore. He didn't like Vienna feeling tense in his arms. "I know someone who prefers the night as well. He likes to think he's a monster sometimes."
Vienna laughed, "Sounds cute."
"Well, he is cute. I'm not going to lie." Victor shrugged. "A little monster, indeed…"
Vienna stood up pretending she was photographing Victor this time, "Alright, I want sexy!"
The limelight now shining down on him, he immediately struck a pose. "How's this?"
"Wonderful!  Magnifico!  Tre magnific!" she smiled, "Now Dangerous sexy! Now!  Now!"
He took her directions magnificently and did as he was told, "Je suis dangereux et sexy, aussi mes ordres de maîtresse." Did he ever mention that he spoke fluent French? He probably didn't.
Vienna blushed and snapped a fake picture, "Donc vous êtes."
"Parlez-vous le français?" He asked in amusement as he sat back in his usual manner.
She looked down at her feet, "Un peu…" she was being very modest.
He chuckled softly. "Well, I'll have to take this opportunity to keep my skills intact." He stood and took her hand. "Let's get you home. It's getting late."
Was it really almost the end of their date?  She frowned wondering if he would ask her out again.
"Don't frown." He pressed a finger to her lips. "This isn't the last date we'll have." He purred sweetly.
"Oh, good." she smiled once more as they began to walk back, "I had a really great time tonight, thank you Victor."
"It was my pleasure. I'm eager to do it again." He pulled her hand up and kissed it just as they rounded the corner, the mansion in sight. "I'm glad you had fun with me."
Vienna glanced up at her grandmother's mansion, "Well, Grandma's expecting me…" she pulled away only slightly from him.
"Bonne nuit, dame douce." Victor said softly, not wanting to say good bye just yet. He tilted her head up and leaned down.
The door opened, interrupting their almost kiss. "Oh, you're back! How was it? Did you two have fun?"
The blonde could only roll his eyes. "You have a wonderful granddaughter, Madame."
Vienna blushed and got close to Victor's face her lips brushing against his ear, "Bonne nuit, chéri…" with that Vienna pranced off towards the door.
Grandma bade goodnight to Victor before closing the door, the man watching as his date slipped away from view. He took a deep breath, got out a cigarette, let out the breath, lit the cig, and took in a long drag of smoke. That was, definitely, an exhilarating night and he was eagerly awaiting the opportunity to do it again.
Excuse me for the lack of icons. I'll get back to those in a minute.
